Towards a new organization

The research program for this period is concentrated on five themes. The concept of value is central, which makes it the umbrella theme of the whole.

A description of each theme includes objectives and research questions. The five themes head five similarly named sub-programs that form the basis of the new organization of the ICN. All projects and staff within the ICN will be placed under one of these five themes as of 1 January 2008.

The five themes/programs are:

  • Value and evaluation
  • Risk management
  • Museometry: collections and numbers
  • Object in context
  • Accessibility

The research program was brought into being through discussion with partners and other concerned parties. Five meetings were subsequently organized in Amsterdam (ICN and the Boekman Foundation), Leiden (Scheltema Complex), Eindhoven (Van Abbe Museum) and Utrecht (Municipal Archives). During these meetings, staff from museums (directors, curators and conservators), universities and archives expressed their opinions on the themes and content of the draft program. Their valuable remarks made an important contribution to the final version of the research program.
