ICN program
The ICN performs the task of maintaining and conveying the meaning of cultural heritage because society values this culture. For these reasons, value has been chosen from the ICN research program as an umbrella theme.
Value and evaluation is also one of the five separate themes. In this program, we focus on the complicated process of value attribution. One of the objectives is to raise awareness of the importance of value and evaluation among the various players in the heritage field: owners, managers, policy makers, directors and financiers.
In addition, the program aims to develop methods and techniques for the evaluation of heritage. Explaining value explicitly is important when it comes to making well-considered decisions and creating support for preservation. All research within the program will be carried out using relevant case studies.
The study of new, contentious, unknown or threatened heritage has our preference because the value of this type of heritage is more often under discussion and so the need for objective evaluation criteria is greater.
